Dr. Edwin Tan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, and heads the Group’s orthopaedics division. Dr. Edwin’s area of specialty is in Sports and Reconstructive Surgery, with a special interest in the upper limb and knee.
Dr. Edwin has travelled extensively to various countries around Asia-Pacific, performing over 1000 such surgeries, ranging from knee ligament reconstructions of national athletes in Papua New Guinea to joint replacement surgeries in China. The Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty, a unique surgical procedure for complex shoulder problems, is his area
of expertise and he has been one of, if not the highest volume surgeon performing this surgery.
Whilst practicing in Singapore General Hospital, he was conferred the title of Adjunct Assistant Professor in Duke-NUS Medical School and was appointed to various positions in the department as well as the institution. This includes Department Quality Officer, the Singhealth Procedural Safety Workgroup and Focus Area Subcommittee in patient safety, care transition and supervision. He was also faculty for residency training and several courses including AOTrauma Advanced Principles of Fracture Management Course and Advanced Arthroscopy of the Shoulder and Knee.
Dr. Edwin Tan graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from NUS in 2004 and was awarded the postgraduate Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008, the Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013, and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2014.
While practicing in Singapore General Hospital, he was awarded the HMDP award for a one-year fellowship program in Imperial College, London – with Professor Roger Emery, then President of the prestigious European Shoulder & Elbow Society.
